when random ass movie stars are like “I’d love to do Broadway at some point” as if Broadway is just some little checkpoint on your epic career like Broadway is just waiting for your fabulous stardom to grace its presence like I don’t think so we’ll see if you can HANDLE Broadway

Someone might get pissed at me for being too pretentious or something but it is honestly so frustrating to me when actors from TV and movies or even POP SINGERS with NO Broadway training WHATSOEVER “decide” to do a Broadway show “just to try it” or are even pulled in by directors for the sole purpose of filling seats because it just feels INCREDIBLY disrespectful to those performers who have been working their asses off to get to Broadway and have paid THEIR FUCKING DUES going to cattle calls and 10 of 12s and hell week after hell week for the LOVE of their craft, of acting for the stage (which is NOT, I might add, ANYTHING like acting for TV or movies) only to get completely forgotten for someone like KELLY FUCKING CLARKSON (honestly that’s not a joke there’s a Playbill article I can’t link to because I’m on mobile that says she’s “talked about taking on Broadway” in the past “and would like to take on Funny Girl if there was a revival”) and it should be great that “big stars” are interested in theatre but first we need to recognize the big stars of Broadway as ACTUAL STARS because pulling in some bubblegum-pop Disney Channel bullshit actress to perform on what to many is a sacred, magical space is SO. FUCKING. DISRESPECTFUL to performers who are considered lesser-than just because they’d rather act live on a stage than a screen. You never hear a Broadway actor saying they’d like to “try” an Oscar-nominated movie someday because no one would take them seriously, because we don’t respect the theatre NEARLY as much as we should.

And I’d like to clarify that I am in no way ignoring the incredibly hard work put in to screen acting, I just wish that stage actors could get the respect they deserve.
